SAP Solution Manager from a CMMI Perspective

Abstract

IT companies and IT departments are forced to demonstrate their strength and maturity in executing successful software projects. The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) of the Software Engineering Institute provides an approach to determine the maturity of a software organization on a scale from level 1 to 5.

This breakout session explains how SAP Competence Centers benefit from a SAP Solution Manager implementation to fulfill the requirements of the CMMI. The presentation starts with a short overview of the SAP Solution Manager and gives an introduction of CMMI and its key concepts. Due to the fact that CMMI is focused on software development projects, the presentation explains why it is reasonable to apply this approach to SAP software implementation projects. Aiming at a level 3 maturity rating, the presentation explains the CMMI requirements and the SAP Solution Manager capabilities to fulfill them.

The practical explanation of this breakout session refers to the requirements management process and the capabilities of the SAP Solution Manager supporting this process. Therefore, the implementation content of the SAP Solution Manager covers virtually a lot of business processes and business scenarios of the solutions that are part of the mySAP Business Suite 2005.
